The state of our mind becomes the state of our world. If we can no longer find joy in that state then perhaps it is time to return the mind to its original joyous condition.
At birth our mind is fresh and clear. As three year olds, we experience things directly, seeing things as they are. Over time we accumulate experiences and memories that color our perception of the world. Some of those experiences are useful and make it easier for us to enjoy life and survive as human beings. Still other experiences are taken to heart as the content of our self-image, that is, who we imagine our self to be. There may come a time, perhaps because of illness, trouble or just plain dissatisfaction with the way things are, when that self-image is no longer able to find joy in the way it experiences the world. At such a time it is suggested that returning the mind to its original natural condition is the most appropriate action. Returning the mind to its origin and making that natural original state the foundation of a new, free and joyous life. That is the "why?" of natural return.
We just spoke of some experiences that have accumulated and have been taken to heart as our self image. Metaphorically we could speak of those experiences as the dust of our mind. Following along with the metaphor then, the way to return the mind to its natural original condition is to remove the dust that has accumulated.
There are many ways to return the mind to its natural original condition. Perhaps there are as many ways as there are human minds. Though there are many ways still there is only one way. To return the mind to its natural original condition of high spirited joy, the accumulated mental dust must be swept clean. The imagined self must be returned to its origin. That is the "How?" of natural return.
Since we all have a mind and a self image we can, if we wish, look into the truth of this promise of freedom and joy. If we sincerely want to we can work it all out by our self, however, it is a whole lot easier to make the return with the help and guidance of someone who has gone before and who is willing to make every effort to show the way.
Miki Nakayama has left us a model path to show us the way to return the mind to its origin, quickly and with certainty. She invites us to try it out and test the truth of it for our self. That seems reasonable enough to me.
