Reflections: God the Parent and "the good old days".

It is common for us to be swayed by our sentiments and emotions and imagine how wonderful things were in the good old days. It is probable that every culture has stories of a past golden age when things were better than they are today. In this vein we tend to revere and long for our now lost past glory, wisdom and knowledge.
God our Parent teaches just the opposite. The past was our infancy, the present our adolescence. The original parent of us all is hastening us to mature and become adults. The past that we long for lacks the truth of origin. The causes set in motion in the past are experienced as the present. Now in our present the truth of origin is offered to any who would have it. Our individual future and the future of our species depends upon whether we choose to mature or remain as children. Ponder this, with each passing generation the playground has become a much more dangerous place. Replacing the self-centered foundation of the mind with the sure foundation of the truth of origin is the only sure way to turn that trend around.

There was a day when I taught not to be swayed by sentiments. If you are swayed by your sentiments you might not be able to undo what you have done. You have created difficulties for yourselves in the past. It will not do. Timely Talks, March 29th, 1904 |
